The Contest

It's that time of year again...Oscar Season!

So let's see who can best predict the winners this year.

You don't have to have seen all of the nominated films, but it definitely helps to see as many as possible. You'll have a better chance of deciding (as does the Academy) which films, in fact, have the best attributes for which they are nominated.

At any rate, the rules of the contest are simple:

  • The Best Picture category is worth 20 points (the most in the contest).
  • Leading and Supporting Actor/Actress categories are all worth 10 points.
  • Every other category is worth as many points as there are nominees (e.g. The "Directing" category has 5 nominees, thus it is worth 5 points).
  • Download the nomination sheets and make your choices.
  • You can either choose one or more nominees in any category. It is important that you understand that though this increases your chances, it decreases the amount of points you will win.
  • For any category that you choose more than one nominee, you must divide the total points for that category between or amongst your nominees. This means that if you choose two nominees from a 10 pt. category, you will only receive 5 pts. if either of your choices wins, etc.
  • Once you have made your choices clear on your nomination sheets, send the file to the email address blreyno1@gmail.com by 11:59 pm 2-26-11.
  • On Oscar night (Feb. 27) we watch who takes home the golden statues.
  • We will then calculate all total points and decide the winner of the contest (The contestant with the most points, obviously).
  • In the event of a tie for greatest point totals, whichever contestant chose the correct Best Picture nominee will be the winner of the contest.
  • In the unlikely event that the tying contestants chose the same film, or neither contestant chose the correct film, the tiebreaker will go on to the Leading Actor category with the same tiebreaker rules. This pattern will continue through leading and supporting actor then actress categories. If, by that time, neither contestant can definitely break the tie, both contestants will be winners and the spoils will be divided evenly between them.
  • Don't forget, in order to be eligible for any winnings, all contestants must pay the $5 entry fee by clicking the "Buy Now" Paypal button and entering your name into the text field (so we can know who has registered properly).
  • The winner of the contest will receive the accumulated entry fees. The more contestants, the better the prize, so tell your friends!
Above all, it isn't about who wins and who loses the contest, what matters is that we support quality in the entertainment and motion picture industry; when good movies win, we all win.
Have fun choosing and watching the awards ceremony! Good luck!
